It is raining. We have breakfast in the dog house, it
is brighter than downstairs and we can see outside. Then, well equipped in
oilskins, we set off on our bike 5 km east to see… guess what… a seismic
station that is installed at a goat farmer's house. We have a good ride and we
arrive at Hans Martin's, who receives us in a very nice way. We are learning a
lot about goats. They are inside when we arrive because the milking is not
over. Then they come out and disappear in the nature. Hans Martin has a huge estate
comprising meadows, hills and mountains. He tells us that in the mountains,
goats jump from stone to stone even when it is very steep. They have a very
secure footing. In principle, they come home on their own in the evening. He
also tells us about a disease that affected his goats a few years ago. Many had
had to slaughtered and even the sheepfold had to be destroyed. He produces milk
and a truck comes to collect the milk every three days. In the meantime, he
puts the milk in a refrigerated 2000 l tank. Then after a good coffee, we go to
see the seismic station. Nothing to do with Gravdal which was an old station.
This is new, installed last year. Jens climbs in and sees that everything is in
good condition. After thanking Hans Martin for his warm welcome, we leave, it
is no longer raining. We have the choice: head west to the port (5 km) or go
further on the road, 9 km to the village where Hans Martin recommended a
restaurant, "Den Sorte Gryte" (The black pot). We go to the black
pot. It's actually a couple who also keep goats and whose daughter has opened a
restaurant. But when we arrive, we find the restaurant closed, only the shop
that sells products from the farm is open. We buy brunost (Norwegian brown goat
cheese), goat chops and a few small things. The lady shows us the dining room
which on the first floor has large windows overlooking the sheepfold. And we go
home, very hungry after 28 km. We have a good lunch on the boat and we leave.
It’s almost 4:00 am and we’re just making a short trip. We anchor in a large
and beautiful bay, the sun is shining, it's idyllic. Jens is going for a dinghy
ride using the electric motor and I'm writing the blog ... which I can't
publish. We dine in the sun on goat chops and then both go “to the beach” in
the dinghy. That's right, it's a beautiful white sand beach. If the water
weren't so cold ... I take a photo of the sunset at 11:30 p.m., no midnight sun
yet today, it's setting behind mountains.
