Nous nous levons à 5 h et partons à 6 h 15. Calme en sortant du port, mais
dès que l’on sort de la baie (bien protégée), les vagues deviennent plus grandes
et pourtant il n’y a pas de vent, c’est de la houle et un reste de vagues d’hier.
Nous les avons de face et Maja monte et descend assez brutalement. Et ce sera
pire quand nous allons les avoir sur le côté quand nous tournerons vers l’est. Et
en plus la météo annonce du mauvais temps la fin de la semaine prochaine quand il faudrait
repasser Lopphavet. D’un commun accord, nous décidons que cela ne vaut pas le
coup, deux heures comme ça juste pour aller à Hammerfest. Nous décidons de
faire demi-tour et de redescendre vers le sud-ouest. Pas de problème pour
tourner et maintenant nous avons les vagues ¾ arrière, Jens déroule la grand
voile et, même sans vent, elle stabilise bien. Je barre un moment et cela me
change bien les idées, je n’aimais pas les grosses vagues (1,5 m +) de
Lopphavet. Donc Seglvik est le point le plus au nord que nous avons atteint.
Nous avions comme but Tromsø et nous sommes montés plus haut, au dessus de 70˚
nord; et hier en promenade, nous avons même atteint Finnmark ! Donc,
nous commençons notre retour vers le sud aujourd’hui. Nous rentrons dans des
fjords et allons toute la journée au moteur. Il fait un temps splendide et même
assez chaud, 18 ˚. Nous voyons plusieurs fois des macareux mais impossible de
les photographier, donc je mets une photo prise dans un livre. Je fais le blog
en route, la mer est d’huile. Nous déjeunons dehors, au soleil avec la table
mise, quelle différence avec les vagues de ce matin. Nous arrivons à Helgøy à 3
h 30. Le port est tout petit et l’entrée sans doute pas assez profonde pour Maja,
donc nous allons ancrer. Il y a deux baies à Helgøy, une à l’est de l’église et
l’autre à l’ouest. Nous arrivons du côte est et passons devant la première
baie, très calme, devant les maisons. Mais un guide parle d’un ponton flottant
à l’ouest donc nous continuons pour aller voir la baie à l’ouest. C’est loin
parce qu’il faut passer un cap et contourner des rochers. Et de l’autre côté, à
l’ouest, il souffle un bon vent et on ne trouve pas le ponton. Nous faisons
demi-tour (encore !) et revenons à la première baie, devant les maisons,
là c’est tout calme. Nous ancrons, petit ankerdram et tour à terre. De nombreux
drapeaux sont hissés et on demande à un homme pourquoi. C’est que c’est le jour
où un service à lieu dans l’église et où les gens qui ont une maison ici se
réunissent. Plus personne n’habite ici, mais les descendants des anciens
habitants entretiennent les maisons et y viennent en vacances. Il nous dit
aussi que les mouettes font leur nid à terre parce que, sur les ilots des
visons volent leurs œufs. Et il parle du temps : il peut faire très
mauvais temps et le fjord (qui a l’air tout calme aujourd’hui) peut avoir de
grosses vagues et il ajoute que c’est à la place où nous sommes ancrés que le vent
peut souffler le plus fort. Nous allons à pied voir le ponton flottant mais de
toute façon ce n’est pas assez profond pour nous. Nous dinons au soleil et
voyons plusieurs bateaux à moteur qui quittent l’ile, les gens rentrent chez
eux, en face, sur le continent ou sur une autre ile. Nous nous couchons à 22 h
30, la journée a été longue.

We get up at 5 am and leave at 6:15 am. Calm when
leaving the port, but as soon as we leave the bay (well protected), the waves
get bigger and yet there is no wind, it's swell and a remnant of yesterday's
waves. We have them from the front and Maja goes up and down quite brutally.
And it will be worse when we get them on the side when we turn east. And in
addition the weather forecast announces bad weather at the end of next week
when it is necessary to pass Lopphavet again on our return. By mutual
agreement, we decide it's not worth it, two hours like that just to go to
Hammerfest. We decide to turn around and go back down towards the southwest. No
problem turning and now we have the waves astern, Jens unfurls the mainsail and
even without wind it stabilizes well. I am steering for a while and it changes
my mind a lot, I didn't like the big waves (1.5 m +) of Lopphavet. So Seglvik
is the northernmost point that we have reached. Our goal was Tromsø and we went
higher, above 70˚ north; and yesterday on a walk, we even reached Finnmark!
So, we begin our return south today. We enter the fjords and go motoring all
day. The weather is splendid and even quite hot, 18 ˚. We see puffins several
times but I cannot photograph them, so I put a photo taken in a book. I do the blog
on the way, the sea is like oil. We have lunch outside, in the sun with the
table set, what a difference with the waves of this morning. We arrive at
Helgøy at 3:30 pm The harbor is very small and the entrance probably not deep
enough for Maja, so we will anchor. There are two bays in Helgøy, one to the
east of the church and the other to the west. We arrive from the east coast and
pass in front of the first bay, very calm, in front of the houses. But a guide
talks about a floating pontoon in the west so we continue to see the bay in the
west. It's far because you have to turn around a mark and around some rocks.
And on the other side, to the west, it is blowing a good wind and we cannot
find the pontoon. We turn around (again!) and come back to the first bay, in
front of the houses, there it is calm. We anchor, small ankerdram and we row
ashore. Many flags are raised and we ask a man why. This is the day when there
is a service in the church and the people who have homes here come together. No
one lives here anymore, but the descendants of the former inhabitants maintain
the houses and come there on vacation. He also tells us that seagulls make
their nests on the ground because minks steal their eggs on the small islands.
And he talks about the weather: it can be very bad weather and the fjord (which
looks quite calm today) can have big waves and adds that it is where we are anchored
that the wind can blow the strongest. We go on foot to see the floating pontoon
but it's not deep enough for us anyway. We dine in the sun and see several
motorboats leaving the island, people returning to their homes across the fjord
on the mainland or on another island. We go to bed at 10:30 pm, it's been a long day.
